Designed by Peter Moore and released on 27 May 2023 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in Sail/Pale Vanilla/Black. Vibrations of Naija puts Nigeria on the tongue of the shoe that started everything, in the Craft build where materials rather than colour carry the design. That combination says a great deal about where Jordan Brand ended up. It began as an American basketball contract signed on 26 October 1984 between Nike and a Chicago Bulls rookie, with a shoe drawn by Peter Moore that reached the public on 1 April 1985. It is now a division that outgrew basketball entirely, taking on the Michigan Wolverines football programme in 2016 and Paris Saint-Germain in 2018. A Retro High OG named for a country is what a global brand looks like when it stops speaking only about Chicago.
A High OG with a texture led finish deserves an outfit with room in it. Wide leg trousers in a warm neutral, a plain tee and an open overshirt lets the shoe sit high on the ankle without crowding. The second recipe is denim: dark straight jeans breaking just above the collar so the full cut stays visible, with a knit on top in one of the shoe's accent tones. Lace to the top for the original silhouette or leave the top eyelet loose for the collapsed collar. Keep it dry, brush before wearing rather than after, and store in the box away from sunlight so any dyed or treated panels hold their tone.
The Air Jordan 1's reach outside America was never planned; it happened because hip hop and film carried it. Spike Lee's Mars Blackmon advertising gave it a screen presence, and rappers including 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Ice Cube and Jay-Z gave it a soundtrack. From there the shoe became the anchor of a resale market valued at roughly two billion dollars and the object that turned sneaker collecting into a mass activity worldwide. A pair that names Nigeria in its title belongs to the era when Jordan Brand builds product for scenes rather than for teams, which is the same instinct that took it into football with Paris Saint-Germain.
Retro High OG means the original full height collar and panel layout rather than a modernised cut, so the shoe wraps the ankle and needs a real break in period while the collar softens. Craft is the label for builds where surface treatment leads, which means you should judge this pair by hand and in daylight rather than by a product photo. Nike Air cushioning has been part of the line since the Air Jordan II. Textured and treated finishes hold dirt in the grain rather than on top, so brush regularly and dry, keep liquid to a minimum, and avoid strong cleaners entirely, since they flatten the finish that the whole build is about.
