Designed by Peter Moore and released on 20 May 2023 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in University Red/Black/White. This is the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG built as a film tie in for Across the Spider-Verse and cut in pre school kids sizing. The silhouette is unchanged from the one Peter Moore designed with Bruce Kilgore, produced for Michael Jordan on 17 November 1984 and released to the public the following April, complete with the full collar, the Wings mark at the ankle and the Nike Air tongue label on the OG spec. What is new is the audience. Jordan Brand runs a collaboration programme that has crossed streetwear, luxury and music, from Off-White under Virgil Abloh to Dior, Comme des Garcons, Supreme and KAWS, and an animated film partnership is that same machinery pointed at a younger buyer.
For kids, keep it simple and let the shoe be the loud item: plain black or grey joggers and a solid tee, or denim shorts and a white tee in warmer months. Avoid graphic clothing that competes, because the shoe already carries a character. Buy with a thumb width of growing room rather than a full size up, which changes the fit badly. Wipe the upper the same day it gets marked, keep it out of the washing machine, and dry naturally so the midsole glue is not stressed by heat.
Air Jordan has always lived through screens. Nike put Spike Lee on screen as Mars Blackmon opposite Jordan in the earliest advertising, which moved the shoe into film language decades before an animated feature borrowed the silhouette. Rappers including 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Ice Cube and Jay-Z did the same in music. A children's Air Jordan 1 tied to a film is the third act of that: a shoe whose recognition is now so complete that it can carry someone else's character and still read as itself. This is how a 1985 basketball shoe stays legible to buyers born forty years later.
PS sizing means a scaled build: the panel structure of the adult High OG carried over, with a softer collar and an easier lace setup for small hands. Leather panels across toe, quarter, eyestay and collar, perforated toe box, foam midsole over a rubber outsole. Character led releases usually carry their graphics through printed or applied details rather than by changing the shoe's architecture, so the shape stays honest even where the artwork is loud. On a kids pair, the practical construction point is the collar and heel: children pull shoes off without unlacing and that is what breaks down the ankle padding. Loosen the laces properly and the pair lasts a full growth cycle.
