Designed by Tinker Hatfield and released on 18 November 2023 as part of the Air Jordan 4 line. This release has a suede upper in Medium Olive/Pale Vanilla/Khaki/Black/Sail. The Air Jordan 4 came from the Tinker Hatfield period, when the line stopped being a signature shoe and became a design series with a vocabulary of its own. This is the Craft treatment, a Special Edition approach that strips the 4 of its usual high contrast plastics and colour blocking and rebuilds it in a single earthy tone, here a medium olive. The Pre School size run means it is built for small feet without changing the shape: same wing eyelets, same heel tab, same visible geometry that made the 4 legible from the back of an arena. Kids get the actual silhouette, scaled, not a soft imitation of it.
Olive is the easiest colour in a kids' rotation because it disappears into everything. First: navy or black joggers with an elastic cuff, a plain sweatshirt, white crew socks. Second: khaki shorts and a striped tee for warm weather, with the wing eyelets laced loosely so the shoe pulls on quickly. Occasion is school run, playground, travel days. Fit on Pre School runs true; check thumb width at the toe every few months because the 4's toe box is structured and will not give. Care: brush the mesh panels dry, wipe the olive panels with a damp cloth only, and let them air dry away from radiators so the moulded parts do not warp.
The 4 is one of the models that carried Jordan out of basketball and into everyday clothing, in the same period when Nike's Spike Lee directed advertising, with Lee playing Mars Blackmon opposite Jordan, put the shoes into film language and rappers including 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Ice Cube and Jay-Z referenced them in music. Kids' sizing matters to that story: this is the model most people first recognise before they can name it. Jordan Brand became a standalone Nike division in 1997 and grew to about 5.1 billion dollars for Nike by 2022, and the family size runs are a real part of why.
The 4's defining parts are its plastic wing eyelets flanking the lacing, the mesh panels set into the quarter for airflow, and the moulded heel. Craft renders those elements in matching olive so the shoe reads as one material block rather than a colour blocked shoe, which is why it looks calmer than a standard 4. Nike Air cushioning has been in the line since the Air Jordan II and sits under a rubber outsole. On a Pre School pair the practical points are the lace loops through the wings, which hold a knot better than plain eyelets, and the padded collar, which forgives a growing foot better than a stiff cupsole shoe would.
