Culture Note™
Designed by Peter Moore and released on 29 October 2025 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has the Regency Purple/Vapor Green/Black/Dark Raisin/Daybreak/Light Silver colourway. Zion Williamson is a signature athlete for Jordan Brand, and Voodoo is his colourway language rather than a house one, which is why this Retro Low OG looks unlike anything in the standard range. The base is the faithful low, the panel map Peter Moore drew for the shoe that reached the public on 1 April 1985 with the ankle removed, and the athlete's palette is laid over it. Alternate marks it as the second reading of that idea rather than the first. In grade school sizing, it does what signature product for a current player is supposed to do: put a professional's identity on a silhouette a fourteen year old already wants, without needing the player's own performance model.
Recipe one, let the palette lead: black or charcoal sweat shorts, a plain white tee and a black hoodie, so the shoe is the only source of colour. Recipe two, denim: dark straight jeans cuffed once with a tee that repeats one tone from the shoe and nothing more. Occasion is everyday, school, courtside spectating; the low is comfortable for long days on hard ground. Fit is grade school sizing, so check length carefully before buying, and a thin ankle sock suits the close collar. Care: brush dust off before it settles into the coloured panels, clean the midsole early, avoid solvent cleaners on any printed detailing, and keep the pair out of direct sun so the saturated tones stay true.
Jordan Brand's current signature roster runs through Zion Williamson, Jayson Tatum, Luka Doncic, Trae Young and Chris Paul, and extends outside basketball to Jalen Hurts and Dak Prescott in the NFL, Aaron Judge and Derek Jeter in baseball, and Maya Moore and Jordin Canada in the WNBA. That roster is the modern half of the story. The older half is Spike Lee's Mars Blackmon advertising and rappers including 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Ice Cube and Jay-Z putting the shoes into music. A player edition of the first model connects the two directly: a current athlete's identity carried by the shape that made athlete identity worth selling.
Leather and synthetic panels in the Voodoo palette, following the original toe, quarter, Swoosh and heel divisions, with athlete specific branding replacing or joining the standard marks. The low collar is padded and cut close to the ankle, so lacing rather than height does the holding. Being the first model in the line, this predates the Nike Air cushioning that entered from the second shoe, so the ride is a stitched cupsole and foam wedge: firm and flat, built for wearing rather than playing. Saturated colourways with special branding show wear at the toe and the branding hits first, so keep the pair brushed and treat any printed or specially finished panels gently.
