Stealth is Jordan Brand admitting that the Air Jordan 1 no longer needs colour to be recognised. The silhouette was drawn by Peter Moore with Bruce Kilgore for a rookie Nike signed in October 1984 in a deal that gave a young player royalties rather than just a cheque, and the design survived on shape alone: the wing shaped eyestay, the long quarter panel, the collar flash. Run in near monochrome grey, that shape has to carry the whole shoe, and it does. The Low cut removes the ankle wrap and with it the last suggestion that this is equipment. What you are left with is the 1985 outline reduced to a neutral, the version people buy when they already own the loud ones.
