Designed by Peter Moore and released on 30 June 2022 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in Black/Mystic Navy/White. Mystic Navy is the Air Jordan 1 Retro Low OG in the one colour that lets the shoe pass as formal. Navy sits outside the Chicago red, black and white scheme the brand uses as its own identity, and it has no college programme attached to it either, so it arrives with nothing to explain. The Low OG designation matters: this is the original proportion tooling rather than the modernised general release shape, which means the panelling reads the way Peter Moore drew it in 1984 with Bruce Kilgore. Deep navy against white makes those panel breaks look like tailoring rather than team blocking. It is the version of this shoe you buy when you have already owned the loud ones and want something you can wear to work.
Recipe one: grey wool trousers with a clean break, a white shirt and a navy blazer, using the shoe where a loafer would go on a day you cannot be bothered. Recipe two: light wash denim, a cream knit and a tan jacket, letting the navy anchor a warm outfit from the ground up. It works with brown leather goods, which most sneakers do not. Lows want the ankle visible or a clean cuff. Fit runs true with a narrow forefoot. This is your bad weather Jordan: navy survives a drizzle and a train platform better than anything pale in the line.
Navy is where the AJ1 stops being sportswear and starts being a shoe. That crossover has a precedent inside the line: Tinker Hatfield put patent leather, a material from formal dress, onto the Air Jordan XI, which is why that model still gets worn with suits. The same instinct runs through Jordan Brand's partner list, which reaches from Dior and Off-White under Virgil Abloh to Comme des Garcons and Supreme. A quiet navy Low is the general release end of that idea, without a raffle, a resale premium, or any need to explain what you are wearing.
Leather panels over a rubber cupsole with a stitched Swoosh and an open ankle. The OG tooling gives a slightly cleaner sidewall than the general release version, and the Low needs almost no break in since nothing sits above the ankle bone. Navy is a genuinely low maintenance finish: dark enough to absorb scuffing, saturated enough that dust does not settle as a visible haze, and stable in sun in a way that brighter dyes are not. The white midsole is the only surface that dates the pair, so keep foam and a soft eraser for the sidewall and leave solvents alone. Condition the leather at the toe crease once or twice a year and always air dry.
