Origin
Released on 28 September 2023 and part of New Balance's 9060 line. This release has a suede upper in Silver Moss Green/Hazy Peach. The Missing Pieces Pack is a retailer led project with The Whitaker Group, and Silver Moss Green is its most restrained expression: a soft, dusty green sitting over silver grey, colours that belong to lichen and old metal rather than to sportswear. The 9060 is the right canvas because it is the shape New Balance built to look at its own archive from the outside. The 99x line has been the brand's premium spine since the 990 arrived in 1982, running through the 991, 992 and 993, and the 9060 takes that vocabulary and exaggerates it. Handing that silhouette to an outside partner and asking for a colour story instead of a logo is exactly how this company has always run collaboration.
Utility
Two ways to wear it. Stone wide leg trousers with a cream tee and an olive chore jacket keeps everything inside the shoe's own earth range, which is how a lichen palette is supposed to work. Or grey sweatpants with a black hoodie, where the silver grey ties to the trouser and the green becomes the only warmth in the fit. Wear it for walking, weekends and travel, and give it a hem wide enough to sit over the sole. Buy true to length and use width fittings if the midfoot presses. Brush the dusty tones dry rather than wet wiping first, since water sets fine dirt into a matte upper, and clean the midsole separately so the pale foam edge stays sharp.

The brand hands over a silhouette and a palette rather than a marketing campaign, which is why its collaborations tend to look like somebody's taste rather than like a licensing deal.
Construction
Muted green over silver grey is a low contrast pairing, which puts the whole burden on the 9060's construction, and this silhouette can carry it. The upper is built from stacked overlays, the side wall is deeply sculpted, and the midsole has enough shaping to cast its own shadows, so two close colours separate into planes rather than merging into a blur. The practical upside is that both tones sit in the dust range, so daily wear reads as patina rather than damage. Underfoot, this house has split structure from cushioning since ENCAP arrived with the 995 in 1986, a polyurethane rim around a soft foam core. Expect a heavy, planted shoe that rewards a wider trouser and punishes a narrow one.
