Designed by Peter Moore and released on 11 October 2022 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a velvet upper in Rust Pink/Rust Pink/White. Jordan Brand has a long habit of bringing materials onto a basketball pattern that had no business being there. Patent leather arrived on the Air Jordan 11 and dragged formal wear onto a court, which is why that model is worn with suits. Pink Velvet Rust Pink, style code DQ8396 600, applies the same logic to the low: velvet is upholstery material, soft, directional and light-catching, and it turns the 1985 panel pattern into something closer to a slipper than a sneaker. The shoe reads warm and dusty rather than bright, with rust pushed through the accents. It is the low cut used as a texture piece rather than a team colour.
Dusty pink and rust is a warm palette, so avoid cold blues near it. Try cream wide trousers, a rust or brown knit and a camel jacket, letting the shoe sit inside a tonal autumn outfit. For a sharper contrast, black straight denim with a black tee and a grey overshirt turns the pink into a single, deliberate colour statement. Low tops need a sock with heel grip. Velvet has a nap, meaning the pile lies in one direction and changes tone as you move, so a single panel can look two shades at once. That is the effect this shoe is buying. Rust pink runs against the softer pink body, with a white midsole and rubber cupsole below.
