Designed by Peter Moore and part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in Blue Void/Summit White/Hot Lava/Pure Platinum. Blue Void is a deep, almost black navy, and on an Air Jordan 1 Mid it does something the original colours never could: it makes the logos the loudest thing on the shoe. The house marks are the point of this line. The Jumpman, Jordan mid leap with his legs split, was created after Peter Moore had him recreate the pose in Bulls gear, and the Wings logo, a basketball with wings, marks the earliest era of the shoe. On a dark, low contrast upper those marks read as the only bright detail. It is a quiet way to wear a silhouette that spent four decades being anything but quiet.
Deep navy is the most forgiving colour in a rotation because it works where black is too hard. Try charcoal or grey wool trousers, a navy crew and a heavier jacket, keeping the whole outfit in cool tones so the shoe disappears into the line of the leg. The second recipe is denim on denim: mid wash jeans, a darker denim shirt, the shoe closing the tonal ladder at the bottom. Mid cut takes a cuff well. Wear it through autumn and winter, since it hides bad weather better than pale pairs, but still keep it out of standing water. Clean the midsole with a dedicated brush; the upper needs only a wipe.
The marks on this shoe carry their own legal and design history. Peter Moore built the Jumpman from a pose Jordan recreated in Bulls gear after Moore saw a Jacobus Rentmeester photograph taken before the 1984 Olympics; Rentmeester sued Nike in 2015 and the Ninth Circuit ruled for Nike in February 2018, finding the images not substantially similar. That silhouette is now one of the most valuable logos in apparel, on a brand that generated about 5.1 billion dollars for Nike in 2022. Wearing a dark, near monochrome pair puts the mark, not the palette, in charge, which is closer to how the brand actually operates today.
The Mid collar rises over the ankle bone without the High's full wrap, and it folds forward with wear into the crease that defines how the cut looks on foot. Blue Void is dark enough to swallow panel seams, so the shoe reads as one continuous volume and the eye goes to the Swoosh, the Wings mark and the Jumpman instead. That is useful in practice: dark uppers hide scuffing and city dust in a way white and red pairs never manage. Nike Air cushioning has been part of this family since the Air Jordan II. Watch the midsole rather than the upper, since a white or cream sole under a dark shoe is where every mark shows.
