Origin
The Dunk started as a colour experiment. Peter Moore sketched it for the 1985 season and called it the College Color High, the centrepiece of Nike's College Colors Program and its one-line brief: Be True to Your School. Twelve programmes got their own pair, UNLV, Arizona, Iowa, Georgetown and Kentucky among them. It was a parts-bin shoe by design, outsole traction borrowed from the Air Jordan 1, an upper blending the Jordan 1 and the Terminator, the mould pulled from the Nike Legend. That mash-up is exactly what made it the most flexible canvas in Nike's cabinet, which skaters found first and Nike SB formalised in 2002.
