Designed by Peter Moore and released on 15 October 2019 as part of Nike's Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in White/Black-Court Purple. Court Purple is one of the colourways that keeps the Air Jordan 1 alive across generations, and on the Low it becomes something you can wear every day rather than protect. The whole line exists because Nike signed Michael Jordan in 1984 and turned one athlete into a business of its own, marketed through Spike Lee's Mars Blackmon adverts, which made Nike the shoe of basketball and, through basketball, of hip hop. One correction worth carrying: the shoe the NBA cited under its uniform rule was the Nike Air Ship, not the Air Jordan 1, and Nike paid the fines and built a campaign out of it. The banned story is advertising, not history. Purple and black on white is the classic Jordan grammar in a lower, easier cut.
Two builds. First, the classic: raw or mid wash denim with a slight break, a white tee, a black or grey hoodie, and let the purple be the only colour in the fit. Second, sharper: black tailored trousers cropped at the ankle, a black knit, a grey overcoat, which makes the Low read closer to a shoe than a sneaker. Good for daily wear, dry weather and any casual dress code. Jordan 1s fit true with a snug midfoot, so wide feet should go up half a size. Clean white leather with mild soap and a soft brush, use a midsole eraser separately, avoid soaking the perforated toe, and keep them out of direct sunlight to stop the white turning.
No Nike product carries more weight than the Jordan line. The 1984 signing changed how sport and fashion do business with each other, and from the 1980s onward Air Jordans became status symbols in urban and hip hop fashion before turning into staples of mainstream American youth dress and returning through every casual cycle since. The Low is where that history became wearable at scale: same lineage, less ceremony. Nike's relationship with basketball is now structural as well as cultural, since it has been the official on court uniform supplier to the NBA, WNBA and NBA G League since 2017, with an extension announced in October 2024.
Style code 553558 125 places it in Nike's white based range, which is the standard structure for Court Purple: a white leather base with purple overlays and a black or purple Swoosh. The Air Jordan 1 Low is the cut down version of the original high top, so the collar sits below the ankle and the shoe loses the ankle support while keeping the panelling, the wings logo placement and the toe perforations. Underneath, it uses Nike's encapsulated Air cushioning in the midsole rather than a visible window, so comfort is felt not seen. White leather bases scuff at the toe and yellow with sunlight, so store them boxed and away from a window.
