Released on 25 December 2024 and part of the XLG Runner Deluxe line. This release has a mesh upper in Off White/Wonder White/Gold Metallic. The XLG Runner Deluxe is adidas Originals doing what it does best: taking the shape of an old running shoe and exaggerating it until it becomes a fashion object. Originals exists because adidas built a lifestyle archive without meaning to, first through sport and then through the Superstar being adopted wholesale by hip hop and the Stan Smith and Gazelle becoming the base layer of European casual dressing. The Deluxe treatment in off white with gold metallic and red is the maximal version of that idea: a cream base that looks archival, a gold that looks like trophy hardware, and a red that stops the whole thing from being polite. It is nostalgia with the volume knob turned up.
First recipe: wide cream or khaki trousers with a brown suede jacket and a white tee, where the gold detailing picks up the jacket and the red keeps it from looking like a uniform. Second: dark indigo baggy denim with a black bomber, so the off white base does all the lifting and the red flashes at ground level. Good for daytime wear, travel and anywhere you want height and presence without a heeled boot. Chunky runners eat sock volume, so size true and use a real sock rather than a no show.
