Origin
Released on 20 October 2022 and part of adidas's Samba line. This release has a leather upper in Collegiate Green/Core White/Gum. Collegiate Green is a football colour before it is a fashion colour, the deep pitch side green adidas has used on kit and training wear for decades, and putting it on the Samba returns the shoe to where it came from. The Samba was built for indoor football, low and flat with a suede toe overlay made to survive ball contact, and everything about it still refers to that job even when it never sees a pitch. Paired with a gum sole, the green reads warm rather than cold, and the shoe looks like it belongs in a sports hall rather than in a lookbook. Style code HP7902. Utility
Green works best against neutrals and against denim, so try light wash straight leg jeans with a white tee and a navy jacket, or ecru trousers with a grey sweatshirt for something softer. Construction
The green sits on the leather panels while the suede T shaped toe overlay provides the texture break, which is the arrangement that makes the OG version look correct rather than reissued. Three Stripes are stitched rather than applied, structure first, the way adidas has used the mark since acquiring it from Karhu Sports in 1952. Gum rubber underneath is the handball and indoor football inheritance, chosen for grip on wood, which is why the shoe feels locked to dry ground and considerably less certain on wet tile. The last is narrow, the sole is thin and the footbed is minimal, so this is a shoe you feel the pavement through. Green leather holds colour well but shows salt marks in winter.
