The Air Jordan 4 belongs to the Tinker Hatfield era, the stretch from the Air Jordan 3 onward when Nike handed the line to a designer who turned a basketball shoe into a design series with its own vocabulary. This release is the women's cut of that model, made under the A Ma Maniere partnership named in the title and dressed in the While You Were Sleeping story, which is why the palette runs soft and tonal instead of team coloured. Jordan Brand's collaboration programme has always crossed streetwear, luxury and music, from Off-White under Virgil Abloh to Dior, Comme des Garcons, Supreme and KAWS, and this sits in that lineage: an outside voice given the model rather than a colour swap applied to it.

The Air Jordan 4 is the most panelled shoe in the early line, with the winged lace cage, the netting side quarters and the moulded heel all doing separate jobs, and a tonal collaboration treatment forces you to read those parts by texture rather than by colour. Nike Air cushioning has been part of the line since the Air Jordan 2, and on the 4 it sits under a foam midsole with a rubber outsole below. In a soft neutral finish, expect the material contrast between the smooth panels, the mesh openings and the collar to be the whole design. Light uppers on a shoe with this many seams need care at the joins, where dirt gathers fastest.
