Released on 22 January 2024 and part of adidas's Samba line. This release has a leather upper in Collegiate Green/Cream White/Gold Metallic. Collegiate green over cream white inverts the usual Samba arrangement. Instead of a pale shoe with a green stripe, the green takes the whole upper and the cream becomes the relief, which makes the shoe read much darker and much more like a garment than a sports item. Collegiate green is a deep, slightly blue leaning green, so the pairing with a warm cream is a deliberate temperature clash that gives the shoe its character. adidas can play these games because the silhouette itself has not moved in decades, and the shape does all the identification work before colour says anything.
Dark green wants warm neutrals rather than cold ones. Cream or tan chinos with an ecru shirt picks up the stripe colour and keeps the outfit soft, while raw indigo denim with a cream sweatshirt gives a sharper contrast that still avoids competing with the green. Steer clear of navy, which flattens it. This shape runs long and narrow, so a half size down is standard. Spray the suede toe before first wear, brush rather than wash, and clean the cream stripes carefully with a barely damp cloth so you do not push green dye into them. Let the pair dry fully between wears, since dark dyed leather holds damp longer than pale leather does.
adidas began with a craftsman watching athletes rather than a factory guessing at them, and the first proof of that method was Jesse Owens wearing Dassler handmade spikes at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Everything the company sells as heritage descends from that period of making a specific shoe for a specific job. What it could not have planned was the second life: hip hop adopting its court shoes wholesale, and terrace and casual dressing across Europe turning Originals silhouettes into a base layer. A green and cream Samba sells on both, the craft story and the street one.
A green upper with a suede overlay at the toe and cream Three Stripes stitched along the quarter, over the low flat outsole this shape has always used. Those stripes came into adidas as reinforcement rather than branding, bought from Karhu Sports in 1952, and on a dark upper with a light stripe they become the strongest line on the shoe. Dark green hides day to day dirt well while the cream stripes and sole edge are what will need attention. There is no foam or cushioning system underneath, so you get a low stance and high ground feel, which suits walking and standing on smooth surfaces more than long days on concrete.
