AMI started in 2011, when Alexandre Mattiussi left the couture machine to build clothes he could actually afford. He had come through Dior's 30 Montaigne menswear line, then Givenchy as first assistant on menswear, then Marc Jacobs, where he was designing cashmere he could not buy himself. Ami means friend in French and doubles as his initials, and the brand runs on exactly that: Parisian clothing made for people you know rather than for a runway. The first Paris boutique opened in 2012 and the ANDAM prize followed in 2013. Then in 2017 came the Ami de Coeur, the ace-of-hearts mark that plays on Mattiussi's own monogram, and a quiet tailoring label became a logo everyone could read across a room. This black polo, reference BFUPL001.760, is that mark at its most wearable.
