Gymshark Power Cut Off Tank Black
Gymshark Power Cut Off Tank Black
Culture Note™️ / ملاحظة الثقافة
Origin
Gymshark started in 2012 in a Birmingham garage, when a 19-year-old Ben Francis was studying at Aston University and delivering for Pizza Hut, printing and sewing gym kit by hand on a sewing machine and screen printer he bought with a school friend. He was building what he could not buy: gym clothes cut for people who actually lift. The BodyPower Expo in 2013 was the turn, a tracksuit selling out in half an hour and a bedroom project becoming a business shipping to more than 230 countries, all of it without outside investment for years. The Power range is Gymshark talking to that original audience, bodybuilders, with kit made to support you through every rep and every set with zero distractions. The Power Cut Off Tank in black is the plainest, most useful thing in it.
Utility
It runs oversized, and wearers report it runs seriously oversized, so take your usual size if you want it draped and go down one if you want it closer to the body. For reference, Gymshark's model on this colour is 5 feet 9 and wears a large. Two ways to run it: black tank, black or grey training shorts and clean trainers for a session with nothing to distract you, or the same tank layered over a long-sleeve base with straight cargos and a cap for the walk there and back, which is how most people actually wear it. Cotton at this weight holds sweat, so wash cool and inside out to protect the graphic, hang it to dry instead of tumbling, and skip fabric softener since it coats cotton and kills breathability.
Influence
Gymshark grew without ad budgets, on athletes and creators posting real training footage, and the look those posts sold became the default gym uniform for a generation: oversized top, shorts, sleeves gone. The cut-off tank is the oldest signal in lifting, the shirt you take a blade to because you want the mirror to do its job, and Gymshark turned that garage-gym instinct into something you can simply buy. Black is the version people actually train in, because it vanishes under a barbell and still reads fine walking into a cafe afterwards. Among Indian lifters it has become the shorthand piece for the serious end of the gym, the top you see in the squat rack queue and in the leg-day post straight after.
Construction
The fabric is 95 percent cotton with 5 percent elastane at 180gsm, and that number is the detail that matters. It is a proper mid-weight cotton, not a thin jersey that goes translucent under gym lights or plasters itself to you once you sweat, and the sliver of elastane keeps the armholes and shoulders from stretching out of shape after a hundred washes. The cut is a strong oversized silhouette with the sleeves gone entirely, so your delts and lats stay visible through a working set. Gymshark's own line is that the iconic Gymshark graphic makes your back look even bigger. Durable is the word the brand uses, and 180gsm cotton is what backs it up: this is built to be trained in, not saved for good.
