Ben Francis incorporated Gymshark in 2012 at nineteen, running it out of a garage between Aston University lectures and pizza delivery shifts, sewing and screen printing stock himself because there was no capital to hold inventory. The turn came at BodyPower Expo in 2013, where the Luxe Tracksuit took the business from roughly 300 pounds a day to 30,000 pounds in thirty minutes. Everything since has been built on the same instinct: make gear lifters actually want to be seen in. The Power line is the most literal version of that idea, cut heavier and roomier for barbell work rather than for running. This one lands in Black with Conditioning Red, so the red only appears in the graphic across the back, which is precisely where it shows when you are facing away from the mirror.
Utility
Two ways to run it. Training: over a fitted tank or on its own with black shorts or joggers, sleeves clearing the delts so you can still check form in the mirror, and a belt that sits over the fabric without dragging. Street: with wide leg cargos, white sneakers and a cap, left untucked so the back graphic reads. On sizing, this is genuinely oversized and Gymshark's own model, at five foot eleven, is shown wearing an XL, so take your usual size for the boxy look and drop one size if you want it closer to the body. Cotton blends shrink, so wash cold, skip the dryer, and turn it inside out so the back graphic never scuffs in the drum. Influence
Gymshark grew without buying a billboard. Francis mailed early product to fitness names like Lex Griffin, Matt Ogus and Chris Lavado, they wore it because they liked it, and their audiences became the customer base. That model built the world tours from 2016, the We Lift The City events, the Gymshark Lifting Club gym, and eventually the Regent Street flagship in London. The result is a brand whose tees read as a gym signal rather than a fashion one: wearing one says you train, not that you shop. The Power range carries that hardest because it is the lifting line, and the oversized black cut with the red back graphic reads as intent rather than outfit, which is why it works as well outside the gym as in it.
Construction
The fabric is 95 percent cotton with 5 percent elastane at 180 gsm, and that mix is why it behaves nothing like a slick polyester gym tee. Cotton gives it body and a dry hand against the skin, the elastane stops the shoulders bagging out after a heavy pressing session, and 180 gsm is enough weight that the fabric hangs off a damp back instead of sticking to it. The fit is a genuine oversized cut with a boxy body, so you get clearance through the lats and armholes when you press overhead and nothing rides up mid set. The front stays clean and the large Gymshark graphic sits across the back. Retail is 36 dollars on the brand's own site.
