Miles Cahn's founding observation was about material, not fashion: baseball glove leather grew softer and more supple the more it was used, and he built a proprietary tanning process to replicate that, producing leather that was stronger, more flexible and able to absorb rich dyes. Pebbled leather is where that idea is most visible, because the grain gives the hide somewhere to move as it breaks in. The Smith Tote in a gold and denim multi colourway takes that founding material logic and puts it in a blue palette, which is the most American colour a bag can be. It is a workshop brand's product, from a company that started with six leather workers making wallets by hand in 1941.
