Air Jordan 1 Retro Low OG GS Black Raspberry
Air Jordan 1 Retro Low OG GS Black Raspberry
Culture Note™️ / ملاحظة الثقافة
Origin
Designed by Peter Moore and released on 24 September 2024 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in Black/Black Raspberry/Volt Tint. Black Raspberry is a colour that would have been unthinkable on a basketball shoe in the first decade of the line and is completely normal on it now. That shift happened because Jordan Brand became a standalone division inside Nike in 1997, with its own apparel, roster and collaborations, and stopped needing team logic to justify a palette. This is the Retro Low OG, the cut closest to the original Peter Moore tooling with the ankle removed, so the deep berry tone lands on a small, clean canvas. Built on grade school sizing, it belongs to the part of the catalogue where the brand experiments most freely with colour.
Utility
Berry tones look best next to neutrals with a bit of warmth. Cream wide leg trousers with a white tee and a camel jacket lets the shoe be the accent in a soft palette. For contrast, black denim and a black tee turn it into the single colour in an otherwise severe outfit, which is the sharper of the two options. Avoid red and orange nearby, both of which fight this tone. The low cut is a summer shoe and works with no show socks or a plain white ankle sock. Clean gently with a pH neutral foam, avoid solvents, and dry indoors away from windows to protect the pigment.
Influence
Jordan Brand's cultural range now runs well past sport, and its collaborator list on the music side, including Drake, Billie Eilish, J Balvin, Eminem and Nicki Minaj, is the clearest evidence of who the brand is designing for beyond athletes. Colourways like this exist for that audience. They are how the 1 stays relevant to people who never saw the shoe on a court and who judge it entirely as an object. The Jumpman, a silhouette of Jordan mid leap with legs split, is the piece that holds it together: it is strong enough that a berry pink Low still reads unmistakably as a Jordan.
Construction
A deep berry pink works across the overlays and Swoosh against a lighter base, laid along the panel seams of the original design so the colour reads as blocking rather than as a wash. The low cut removes the padded collar entirely, giving a flexible shoe that suits warm weather and packs flat. Style code HF0410 001. There are no published material weights or stack heights, so the cut and the colour block are the specification. Berry and pink pigments are among the least UV stable used on leather uppers, so the practical advice is simple: keep this pair out of long direct sunlight if you want the tone it had in the box.
