Released on 22 August 2024 and part of the Jordan Tatum 2 line. This release has a textile upper in Light Zitron/Sail/Aurora Green/Atomic Pink. Jayson Tatum is a signature athlete for Jordan Brand, which is a status the brand has been able to grant since it became a standalone Nike division in 1997 with its own roster rather than a single namesake. The Tatum line is therefore not a retro and not a tribute: it is a working basketball shoe designed around a current player. Lemonade is a colourway with no archival debt, no Chicago palette obligation and no elephant print to honour, and that is the freedom a modern signature model gets. The Jumpman on it carries decades of recognition, but the shoe underneath is being judged on the current season rather than on 1985.
Two recipes. First, on court: black shorts and a plain jersey, where a pale bright shoe makes footwork read from the bleachers. Second, off court: light grey sweatpants and a white tee, a low contrast fit where the lemonade tone is the only thing carrying colour. Performance basketball models generally fit snug and true, so size true and lace firmly through the midfoot for lateral support. Keep this pair indoors, brush the outsole before each session so traction holds on dusty floors, and and never dry a performance upper near a radiator, because heat warps the containment structure and loosens the bond at the midsole.
Jordan Brand generated about 5.1 billion dollars for Nike by 2022, and the athlete roster is how a heritage brand keeps a present tense. Lemonade is a bright, pale tone that shows court dust immediately, which is a cosmetic issue rather than a functional one. Wipe the outsole before every session, air the shoe fully between wears, and keep a separate pair for outdoor courts.
