Adidas Gazelle Indoor Collegiate Burgundy Arctic Fusion
Adidas Gazelle Indoor Collegiate Burgundy Arctic Fusion
Culture Note™
Origin
Released on 25 May 2023 and part of adidas's Gazelle line. This release has a suede upper in Collegiate Burgundy/Arctic Fuchsia/Collegiate Green. The Gazelle Indoor is the handball and indoor court version of the Gazelle, which means a wider, flatter shoe with a grippier sole and a slightly softer stance than the outdoor original. Collegiate Burgundy with Arctic Fusion is a properly considered pairing: a deep wine ground with a cold, pale blue running through the Three Stripes and trim, warm against cool rather than tonal. adidas built its authority making shoes for specific events rather than general sport, and the Indoor is a direct descendant of that habit, a shoe designed for a wooden floor that ended up spending most of its life on pavement.
Utility
Burgundy and pale blue is a colour pairing that does most of the work. First recipe: cream or off-white wide trousers with a navy knit, where the burgundy grounds the outfit and the blue trim ties to the top. Second: indigo denim with a grey sweatshirt, letting the wine tone read as the only saturated element. The Indoor is flat with light cushioning and a wide forefoot, so it suits walking and standing, not distance. It fits fairly true, slightly roomier than the outdoor Gazelle. Protect the suede first, brush it often, and keep it away from rain, since burgundy suede water-marks visibly and is difficult to even out.
Influence
The Gazelle sits in the Originals family that turned adidas archive product into everyday European dress, alongside the Samba, the Superstar and the Stan Smith. That family became the base layer of terrace and casual style, adopted rather than advertised, which is the pattern of every adidas cultural win: Run-DMC wrote My Adidas unpaid in 1986 and only then signed the first endorsement deal between a musical act and an athletic company. Indoor court shoes carry that same secondhand authority, worn by people who never played handball but understood why the shoe looked the way it did.
Construction
Suede upper on a gum rubber outsole with the flatter, wider indoor last and a padded collar. The Three Stripes are stitched in their original reinforcing position on the quarter panel, and the gum compound is what indoor court shoes used for grip on polished wood. Burgundy suede is rich but absorbent, so a protector spray before first wear is not optional if you plan to wear these outside. Brush the nap dry and in one direction after each outing, and treat the pale Arctic Fusion trim as the part that shows dirt first, cleaning it with a barely damp cloth. Gum soles yellow with sun, so store them out of direct light.
