Designed by Peter Moore and released on 17 June 2022 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in Crimson Bliss/Rush Orange. Nike's projection for this shoe was 3 million dollars in sales over three years. The first 50,000 pairs sold out and it passed 150 million, and the shoe went on to create sneaker collecting as a mass activity, with original 1985 pairs trading around 20,000 dollars on StockX. Rush orange sits at the opposite end of that story from the archive: a bright, unsubtle general release on the Mid, the tier that exists to be bought and worn rather than held. The silhouette is still Peter Moore's, drawn with Bruce Kilgore for a Chicago rookie, but the colour has no historical claim whatsoever, which is a kind of freedom.
Orange is a one item colour. Recipe one: black tapered joggers, a black hoodie, black socks, so the shoe is the entire outfit's argument. Recipe two: mid blue denim, a white tee, a navy jacket, using orange as the single warm point against a cool base. Never pair with red or pink, which fight it directly. Mids look best with the hem sitting at the collar so the colour block is not cut in half. Best in autumn and winter, when everything else you wear is dark. Bright uppers scuff visibly, so brush after wear, clean early, and keep them out of prolonged direct sun to slow fading.
The resale market this silhouette anchors has been valued at roughly 2 billion dollars, with several billion more projected, and that market is why loud general releases matter: they are the shoes people actually wear while the rare pairs sit in boxes. The Jordan 1 earned that position through advertising rather than performance claims, starting with Spike Lee directing and playing Mars Blackmon opposite Jordan, and through hip hop, where the shoes became shorthand in verses. There is a documented darker side as well: in the late 1980s the shoes were associated with robberies and assaults, and some American schools banned them outright.
Bright orange is a high energy tone that saturates fully, meaning the panels read as solid blocks and the shape is legible from across a street. The Mid keeps a collar around the ankle while sitting under the original high cut, so the orange covers less area than it would on an OG and the effect stops short of overwhelming. Saturated colours show creasing at the toe box more sharply than muted ones, since the fold catches a darker shade of the same hue. Jordan Brand does not publish a per colourway material breakdown, so confirm panel finish in hand and expect the lightest contrast areas to need cleaning first.
