Air Jordan 1 Mid SE Craft Inside Out Taupe Haze

This is a texture piece, so keep colour out of it. Recipe one: stone or khaki wide trousers, an ecru heavy tee, a washed brown overshirt, socks in cream so the whole leg stays tonal. Recipe two: black denim, a grey marl crew, an unstructured taupe jacket, letting the shoe supply the only visible seams. Avoid crisp white clothing, which makes the haze look dirty rather than intentional. Mids suit a hem sitting at the collar. Good for dry days: exposed edges absorb water fast. Use a protector before first wear, brush rather than wipe, and accept a little patina instead of chasing a clean finish.

Deconstruction became a mainstream sneaker language through this brand's collaboration programme. Off-White under Virgil Abloh worked on Jordan silhouettes by exposing and annotating construction, Travis Scott's Cactus Jack releases covered the Air Jordan 1, 4 and 6, and Comme des Garcons, Supreme, KAWS and Dior each took the same shape in a different direction. Craft and inside out general releases are the house version of that vocabulary, offered without a guest designer and without the auction that follows one. The reference point is always the same silhouette, which has now been reinterpreted so many times that a raw, unfinished treatment counts as a legitimate colourway.

An inside out treatment exposes the surfaces a normal build hides, which changes both the texture and the way the shoe ages: seams, backing material and edges become part of the design rather than things to be concealed. The Mid cut wraps the ankle below the original high collar height, keeping the composition tighter than a full high top would. Taupe haze is a low saturation grey brown, so the interest here is entirely in surface rather than in colour, and the finish will pick up dirt in a way that either reads as patina or as damage depending on how you treat it.
