Designed by Peter Moore and released on 22 May 2023 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a suede upper in Magic Ember/Sundial/White/Black. SE make-ups are where Jordan Brand plays with the Air Jordan 1 Mid rather than reissuing it, and this one runs a Flight Club theme in Magic Ember and Sundial: a warm orange against a golden yellow, a palette pulled from varsity and club athletics rather than from the Chicago kit. The underlying shape is the one Peter Moore designed with Bruce Kilgore for a rookie Michael Jordan, produced for him on 17 November 1984 and sold to the public from 1 April 1985. Four decades of retros later, the Mid has become the version of the AJ1 that carries graphic and thematic ideas, because it is priced and produced to be worn rather than stored. This pair is loud on purpose.
Two recipes. Sport it straight: navy or black track pants with a white tee and a varsity style jacket, letting the ember and sundial tones pick up any warm trim. Or dress it down: raw denim, a heavy cream sweatshirt, and white ribbed socks so the orange reads as the single accent in an otherwise neutral fit. This is a summer and early autumn shoe in feel, so it works with shorts and a camp collar shirt too. Sizing is standard Mid, close to true to size with a snug midfoot. Keep the white leather clean with a soft brush and mild soap, avoid bleach based cleaners on the warm panels, and store them away from direct sun so the yellow does not shift.
Jordan Brand became a standalone division inside Nike in 1997, and that shift is exactly why a shoe like this exists. Once the line stopped being a single signature model it gained a full apparel and concept programme, a roster running from Jayson Tatum and Zion Williamson to Jalen Hurts and Aaron Judge, and the freedom to make a themed Air Jordan 1 that has no connection to any player at all. The division moved outside basketball entirely, taking on the Michigan Wolverines football programme in 2016 and Paris Saint Germain in 2018. A club styled SE pair is that logic worn on foot: the Jumpman as a sports culture mark rather than a basketball one.
Leather panels in white carry the Magic Ember and Sundial blocking, with the Swoosh and collar treatment doing the heavy colour work and the toe box perforated as always. The padded collar holds the Wings logo, and the rubber cupsole sits underneath with the forefoot pivot circle. SE builds like this usually add a detail the standard Mid does not have, whether that is stitching, a patch or a lace treatment, so check the tongue and heel when yours arrives, because those are the places Jordan Brand puts the theme. Warm colours on white leather want a barrier: the yellow and orange stay bright, but the white panels between them are what will age visibly.
