Designed by Peter Moore and released on 19 February 2021 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in Black/Metallic Silver/White/Black. Silver Toe puts a metallic panel on the front of the most familiar shoe in sport, and the effect is closer to jewellery than to sportswear. There is precedent for that move inside this line: the Air Jordan XI put patent leather on a basketball court, bringing a formal wear material into performance footwear, which is the reason that model gets worn with suits. Silver on the Retro High OG follows the same logic on an older pattern, the shape Peter Moore drew with Bruce Kilgore and Nike released publicly on 1 April 1985. Black and white around a metallic toe keeps it wearable, so the shine is an accent rather than the whole shoe.
Metallic wants restraint everywhere else. Try black tailored trousers with a slight break, a white shirt and a black coat so the toe catches light as you move, which is the whole reason the shoe exists. For a casual read, straight leg blue denim, a black knit and silver jewellery repeats the finish without overloading it. Skip other metallics in the outfit. Size as you would any Jordan 1 High and expect the collar to soften after a week. Clean the metallic panel with a damp cloth only, keep the white midsole sharp with a sponge, and store the pair in a box away from anything that can rub the toe.
Jordan Brand has built a women's presence with signed athletes including Maya Moore and Jordin Canada, and its cultural roster now runs through music with Billie Eilish, Nicki Minaj, Drake and Travis Scott alongside design partners such as Off-White under Virgil Abloh, Dior and Comme des Garcons. A metallic Jordan 1 belongs to that half of the brand rather than the basketball half. It is the version of the shoe that gets styled rather than played in, which is exactly the shift the XI made possible when it proved a basketball model could carry a dress material without looking like a costume.
The OG High pattern is the closest to the original: a tall collar with the Wings mark, layered panels, a padded tongue and a flat rubber cupsole that keeps the ride firm and grounded. What changes here is one material. A metallic toe panel reflects instead of absorbing light, so it draws the eye to the front of the shoe and shows creasing differently from matte leather, in highlight rather than shadow. There is no visible Air unit in this pattern, that technology entered the line from the Air Jordan II. Metallic finishes do not respond well to abrasive cleaning: wipe with a soft damp cloth, never a stiff brush, and keep the toe away from scuffing surfaces.
