Designed by Peter Moore and released on 1 June 2024 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a nubuck upper in Neutral Grey/Metallic Silver/White. Metallic Silver is one of the Jordan 1's earliest non team ideas, a neutral that behaves like a colour because of how it catches light rather than because of its hue. It belongs to the same instinct that later put patent leather on the eleventh model: take a finish from outside sport and apply it to a basketball pattern to see what happens. On a Retro Low OG the effect is contained, since the collar drops away and the silver panel sits at eye level on the quarter rather than wrapping an ankle. The shoe reads clean and slightly formal, which is not a word the line's early advertising would have wanted anywhere near it.
Silver wants a cold, tight palette. Wear it with black tailored trousers and a grey knit so the metallic reads as jewellery rather than as novelty, or with dark raw denim and a black tee for a simpler version that still lets the panel catch light. Skip other metallics entirely, including hardware on bags and belts if you can. The low cut works with cropped hems and shorts. Take your usual Jordan 1 length. Clean with a dry microfibre only, never use a stiff brush or solvent on the metallic panel, avoid rain since water marks are highly visible on reflective finishes, and store them in a dust bag.
The Jordan 1's cultural weight came from the collision of basketball and hip hop, and metallic finishes speak that second language fluently, sitting comfortably beside the jewellery vocabulary that rappers including 2Pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Ice Cube and Jay-Z brought to the shoes when they referenced Jordan in their music. The Low is the cut that carried furthest from the court, and a silver Low is about as far from a 1985 arena as the pattern travels while still being recognisably the same shoe. It sells to people dressing for a night rather than for a game.
The Retro Low OG uses the original blocked pattern, with toe, quarter and eyestay panels cut separately, a stitched Swoosh and a rubber outsole carrying the forefoot pivot circle, all cut below the ankle. Metallic finishes need different handling from matte leather: they mark at raised edges, they show fingerprints, and abrasive cleaning permanently dulls the reflectivity, so a dry microfibre beats any brush. Against white panels the silver reads cooler in daylight and warmer under interior light. Fit is standard Jordan 1 Low: flat through the forefoot, snug at the midfoot, firm underfoot until the collar foam settles over the first week of wear.
