New Balance 9060 Washed Burgundy

Released on 26 September 2023 and part of New Balance's 9060 line. This release has a suede upper in Washed Burgundy/Slate Grey/Angora. Washed Burgundy is the 9060 in its most adult colourway, a deep wine tone taken down to something dusty and worn rather than rich. It suits a company that has never really performed wealth. New Balance has been privately held under Jim Davis since 1972, when he bought it with six employees making around thirty pairs a day, and it built its business on domestic manufacturing and technical fit rather than on marketing spectacle. The 9060 borrows the panel logic and proportion of the 99x running line and exaggerates it, so a colour this saturated could easily have tipped into costume. Washing it back is what keeps the shoe wearable, and keeps it recognisable as this brand rather than any other.
