Released on 1 January 2025 and part of adidas's Samba line. This release has a leather upper in Cloud White/Collegiate Green/Gum. This is the Samba doing the job it was never designed for, and doing it convincingly. The original was a hard ground football trainer, the purest surviving example of Adolf Dassler's method of building a shoe for one specific problem, made by a company he started in his mother's laundry room in Herzogenaurach and registered as adidas AG on 18 August 1949. The spikeless golf version takes that flat, low, grip focused shape onto the course, where a stable base and a quiet profile actually matter. White with Collegiate Green and a Gum accent is the most appropriate palette it could have taken, reading as clubhouse and fairway without wearing a novelty graphic.
Play in it and then keep wearing it. Recipe one: on course, mid grey golf trousers with a white polo, letting the Collegiate Green pick up the grass rather than fight it. Recipe two: off course, cream chinos with a navy knit, where the gum sole and green heel read as smart casual rather than as sports equipment. Spikeless outsoles need their lugs cleared after a round, since packed turf and mud kill traction faster than wear does; a stiff brush and water is enough. Keep white leather away from prolonged wet grass, dry it slowly at room temperature, and use shoe trees or paper to hold the low profile shape.
adidas has always converted between sports rather than starting from scratch, and this is one of the neater conversions. The Samba's cultural weight comes from its second life, alongside the Superstar and the Stan Smith, as the base layer of European football terrace and casual dressing, which means it arrives on a golf course carrying meaning no purpose built golf shoe has. That is the trade. You lose the technical look of modern golf footwear and you gain a silhouette people recognise from the street. Golf has spent the last decade absorbing exactly that kind of crossover dressing, and a green and gum Samba is the clearest possible expression of it.
The Samba's proportions survive the conversion: low leather upper, the familiar T shaped toe overlay at the abrasion point, and a flat profile that keeps you close to the ground. What changes is underfoot, where a spikeless golf outsole replaces the football tread, using moulded traction rather than removable cleats so it can walk a clubhouse floor and a tee box without changing. The Three Stripes still run the quarters as structural banding, a role they have had since adidas bought the mark from Karhu Sports in 1952. Collegiate Green on white gives the shoe its course identity and the Gum accent ties it back to the original Samba, which is the reason this works as a golf shoe at all.
