Designed by Peter Moore and released on 18 January 2020 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in Black/Metallic Silver/Gym Red/Black. Black and Gym Red on an Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG is the brand's founding palette, since red, black and white have functioned as brand colours in themselves since Chicago. The silhouette is Peter Moore's, drawn with Bruce Kilgore, and the OG designation means the proportions follow the original tooling rather than the modern retro pattern. The Air Jordan 1 sold out its initial 50,000 pairs and passed 150 million dollars in sales after reaching the public on 1 April 1985, far past Nike's target of about 3 million dollars over three years. Note that this listing carries no style code, and black and red High OGs have been issued in several distinct makeups, so confirm the exact release with your seller.
The founding palette is easy to wear and easy to overdo. Recipe one: black straight leg jeans, a plain white tee, a black jacket, letting the red panels be the only colour in the fit. The High is the original cut, collar above the ankle with a padded top line, and it is the proportion the shoe was drawn to. Black and Gym Red is high contrast blocking, so the toe panel, side quarter, heel counter and Swoosh all read as separate pieces and every crease is visible. OG tooling changes the wing panel placement and Swoosh length relative to a standard retro. Without a style code on this listing there is no way to tie it to one specific release, so treat panel placement, collar height and the seller's own photographs as your verification. Expect a real break in period before the collar and vamp soften.
