Two recipes. Classic: raw or mid blue denim, a white tee, and nothing else, letting red and white do what they have always done. Or dampen it: grey trousers with a navy crew, where the red is a single accent rather than the theme. Red Air Jordans fight patterned clothing, so keep the rest plain. Lows want the hem at the ankle. Sizing runs close to true, half up for width. Use a foam cleaner and a soft brush, always work the white areas before the red, and never leave the shoes damp with the red panels touching the white.

You will read a lot of confident numbers about this shoe's first year, and most of them are wrong. Sources disagree wildly on that revenue figure. What is actually documented is cleaner and more impressive: the initial 50,000 pairs sold out, and the model went on to generate more than 150 million dollars against a Nike projection of roughly 3 million over three years. That gap is the entire reason the line exists in its current form. University Red is the colourway that carries the memory of it most directly, the palette the shoe wore when nobody yet knew what it was going to become.

White leather with university red on the Swoosh, collar and heel, on the OG Low pattern with its stitched rubber cupsole. Red over white is the hardest contrast this shoe has to manage, because red pigment migrates: a wet red panel pressed against white leather will leave a shadow that does not come out. Clean the two separately and never soak the upper. The build itself is unchanged from the original brief, flat leather panels over a wide rubber platform, which is why it still feels solid rather than sporty and why it wears in rather than out. Break in is short on this cut, and the crease that lands across the toe box is permanent.
