Released on 31 January 2025 and part of adidas's Samba line. This release has a leather upper in Cream White/Core Black/Sand Strata. This is the Samba OG cut for junior sizing and finished in leopard, which tells you exactly how far the shoe has travelled from its original brief. The Samba began as an indoor football trainer, low and flat with a suede toe cap made to survive contact with a ball. It became a lifestyle shoe through adoption rather than campaign, the same route the Superstar took when hip hop claimed it in the 1980s. Once the Trefoil, designed in 1971 for the Munich Olympics, became the mark of adidas Originals, shoes like this stopped being sports equipment and started being wardrobe. A leopard print Samba in kids sizing is the end point of that journey: the silhouette is now stable enough to carry a pattern that has nothing to do with football.
Keep the rest simple, because the print is the outfit. Dark denim or plain black trousers with a white or cream top lets the leopard sit as the accent, and a single colour picked out of the print, tan or black, in a jacket or bag ties it together. The second route is full tonal brown, where the print reads as texture instead of pattern. adidas Originals works because the archive silhouettes are strong enough to take reinterpretation without losing identity, which is the lesson of the Superstar: adidas sold over 15 million pairs of Superstars in a single year at that shoe's peak, decades after it left the court. The Samba has followed the same arc through terrace and casual dressing. Animal print on a football shoe is a statement about that confidence rather than about football. Naming nobody here is deliberate: this is a shoe that sells on the strength of a shape people already recognise, in a size range where the wearer picked it themselves.
The J designation means the shoe is built on grade school sizing rather than adult proportions, so the last is shorter and the collar padding is scaled to a smaller foot. Everything else is Samba. The leopard treatment sits across the upper panels while the T shaped toe overlay and the Three Stripes hold their usual positions, which is what keeps the shoe readable as a Samba at a glance rather than as a novelty. Gum rubber underneath gives the flat, grippy footprint the model was designed around. Style code JQ5874. Printed and textured uppers pick up scuffs more visibly than plain leather, so the wear pattern will show first at the toe and along the outer edge of the little toe.
