Culture Note™

Designed by Peter Moore and released on 1 April 2017 as part of the Air Jordan 1 line. This release has a leather upper in Black/Royal-White. Royal is one of the original Air Jordan 1 colourways, black and blue, and the 2017 retro brought it back in High OG form for a market that had grown up around it. The shoe itself was drawn by Peter Moore with Bruce Kilgore, produced for Michael Jordan on 17 November 1984 and released to the public on 1 April 1985, after Nike signed the Bulls rookie on 26 October 1984 for six years and about 2.5 million dollars with a royalty on sales, a contract roughly three times any other in the league. Nike had modest hopes, around 3 million dollars over three years. The first 50,000 pairs sold out and the shoe passed 150 million dollars, and Royal was part of that first wave.
