Released on 21 December 2023 and part of adidas's Samba line. This release has a suede upper in Preloved Brown/Shadow Brown/Preloved Yellow. This is the Samba OG dropped into the Talchum Pack, and the shoe underneath is the same hard ground football trainer adidas has made since long before anyone wore it to dinner. Adolf Dassler built the company on shoes made for one job, starting in his mother's laundry room in Herzogenaurach and registering adidas AG on 18 August 1949, and the Samba is the purest surviving example of that thinking. Preloved Brown is the interesting variable. It is a muted, slightly dusty brown that looks like a shoe already lived in, which suits a silhouette whose whole appeal is that it improves as it ages.
Brown is the most flexible neutral in a wardrobe that is mostly blue and black. Recipe one: dark indigo straight jeans with a cream knit and a brown leather belt, letting the shoe and belt agree while the denim carries the outfit. Recipe two: olive wide leg cargo trousers with a heather grey sweatshirt and off white socks, where the brown warms up an otherwise military palette. Suede and soft brown leather are the two materials most vulnerable to water staining, so spray a suede protector before the first wear and blot, never rub. Brush with a crepe brush to lift dust. Add an insole if you are on your feet all day, since the footbed is thin by design.
adidas Originals is a lifestyle line built on borrowed adoption. The Superstar and the Stan Smith became the base layer of European football terrace and casual dressing, and the Samba rode the same current from pitch to pavement without adidas engineering it. What has changed is who is doing the adopting, which is why a pack like this exists: the archive gets recoloured through scenes and regions rather than through sport. Preloved Brown belongs to the version of that story where the shoe is meant to look inherited. There is no celebrity attached to this pair and it does not need one. The Samba's cultural weight comes from volume and repetition, not from a single sighting.
The Samba build is unchanged where it matters: a low leather upper, a suede toe wrap over the abrasion point, and a flat gum type outsole made to grip a hard surface. In Preloved Brown the tonal treatment collapses the usual white and black contrast, so the shoe reads as a single warm mass and you notice the shape rather than the panels. The Three Stripes still run the quarters as structural banding, which is how adidas has used the mark since buying it from Karhu Sports in 1952. Because the brown is soft and low contrast, scuffs and creasing register as patina rather than damage, which is the honest reason this colourway works. It sits flat, low and narrow through the waist as always.
