The number on this shoe points straight back to the start: 1906, the year William J Riley began the New Balance Arch Support Company outside Boston. The 1906R itself belongs to the brand's later technical running era, all engineered panels and visible support structure, built when running shoes were designed to look like equipment. Metallic Silver with Metallic Gold pushes that engineering read to its limit. A chrome upper broken by gold hits turns a functional runner into something closer to hardware, which is a joke only New Balance can make, because the brand spent a century being the least flashy name in the category.
