Released on 20 March 2025 and part of the Adizero Evo SL line. This release has a textile upper in Orbit Grey/Zero Metallic/Halo Silver. adizero is the competitive end of adidas running, the line where the brand puts its racing thinking, using thermoplastic polyester elastomer midsoles with embedded carbon rods rather than a single plate in its top racing shoes. The Evo SL is the stripped member of that family, taking the racing geometry and the lightness and leaving out the plated race day machinery so it can be worn every day. Orbit Grey treats it as exactly that. Instead of the fluorescent race kit palette, you get a flat, mid grey that lets a very aggressive running shape pass as a normal shoe. It is the adizero silhouette without the adizero costume, which is why it sells to people who never pin on a number.
As a running shoe it suits faster efforts, tempo sessions and race day for most people rather than heavy daily mileage, and it rewards a midfoot strike because the rocker wants to keep you moving forward. As a street shoe, grey makes it easy: black tapered trousers, a grey tee and a black shell jacket keeps it technical, or wide dark denim with a white crew if you want the shape read as fashion. Wear thin performance socks with it rather than thick ribbed ones, because the fit is close through the midfoot. Keep it out of daily commuting duty if you want the foam to last, and never dry it on a radiator.
adidas has two logo systems for a reason. The Trefoil, designed in 1971 for the Munich Games, marks heritage and lifestyle, while the three angled bars introduced in 1997 by creative director Peter Moore mark performance, and this shoe wears the performance mark honestly. The interesting cultural turn is that serious running shoes have become street shoes, worn by people who will never race, because the shapes now look faster than anything in the lifestyle catalogue. A grey Evo SL is the clearest example of that crossover: bought by runners for tempo days and by everyone else because it looks like the real thing, which it is.
This is a running shoe built to be light first. The upper is a thin engineered mesh with minimal overlays, so support comes from the pattern of the weave and the lacing rather than from added layers, and the tongue and collar are cut down to save weight. Underfoot is a foam midsole shaped with the rocker geometry the adizero line uses to roll you forward, with outsole rubber placed only where wear happens rather than across the whole base. Orbit Grey covers the upper with the Three Stripes picked out in contrast. Do not machine wash a foam midsole shoe. Brush the mesh, air dry it, and rotate pairs so the foam recovers between runs.
