Released on 20 September 2021 and part of the Predator Freak+ line. This release has a primeknit upper in Red/Core Black/Solar Red. Predator is adidas's control boot, the one built for players who want the ball to do what they tell it to, and the Freak+ generation in Solar Red with Demonskin is the most aggressive expression of that idea the line has produced. Where a speed boot strips material away, Predator adds it: texture, grip and surface across the strike zone. That is the founding adidas method taken to its logical end, since Adolf Dassler built event specific shoes in Herzogenaurach because he watched what athletes actually needed rather than guessing. Solar Red makes the boot impossible to miss on grass, which for a striker is part of the brief rather than a side effect.
On pitch: firm natural grass only, with a thin technical sock so the textured upper sits close to the foot. Break them in over training sessions before a match, since a boot in this family holds the foot firmly and needs a session or two to settle. Off pitch: keep them in the bag, because walking on concrete destroys studs faster than any match will. Buy snug with no heel slip and no toe pressure. After each use, clean the studs, wipe between the Demonskin elements with a soft brush, stuff them with newspaper to hold their shape, and dry them at room temperature away from radiators.
adidas football is the brand's home ground rather than a category it entered, and its authority there is carried by sponsored athletes including Lionel Messi and David Beckham. The Predator name is one of the few pieces of football equipment that non players recognise, because it belongs to a generation of boots that were discussed like signature sneakers, argued over in playgrounds and remembered by colourway.
