Released on 13 January 2022 and part of adidas's Forum line. This release has a nylon upper in Black. The Prada partnership is one of the sharpest examples of what adidas started when it invented the modern fashion designer sneaker collaboration through Y-3, Stella McCartney, Raf Simons and Alexander Wang: rather than a designer sub label, an Italian luxury house builds an adidas silhouette to its own material standard. The Forum High is the base, adidas's tall eighties basketball shoe with its strap and panelled leather architecture, and Re-Nylon is Prada's regenerated nylon. In black the two identities almost merge, because the shoe loses colour as a differentiator and has to be recognised by its proportions and its finish. The code on this pair is Prada's own, which tells you where it was made and to whose specification.
Recipe one: black tailored trousers with a black knit and a long charcoal coat, an all black column where the nylon's sheen is the only variation in texture. Recipe two: dark raw denim with a grey crewneck, keeping the outfit plain so the high top's proportions and the strap do the work. Fit is standard Forum, true to size, and the nylon upper breaks in faster than leather would. Nylon handles light rain better than leather but the cupsole and the collar padding do not, so avoid standing water. Wipe the shell with a damp cloth rather than a brush, never use solvent cleaners on regenerated nylon, and stuff them when stored so the high collar does not fold.
adidas's collaboration record is the longest in the industry and it set the template everyone else followed, from Yohji Yamamoto's Y-3 line onwards through Jeremy Scott, Raf Simons and Alexander Wang, and on the music side from Run-DMC's unpaid My Adidas through Pharrell Williams, Bad Bunny, Beyonce and an Original Forever collection with Oasis. A luxury house choosing the Forum rather than a running silhouette is a statement about which part of the archive carries weight: the basketball shoes are the ones that hip hop adopted wholesale, and that history is what a nylon reissue is borrowing.
Re-Nylon replaces the Forum's usual leather panels with a regenerated nylon shell, which changes the shoe's whole character: lighter, with a technical sheen rather than a grain, and a drape that softens the basketball architecture. Underneath, the Forum High template survives, including the ankle strap, the padded collar and the Three Stripes running through the sidewall, where adidas has always used them structurally as well as visually since acquiring the mark from Karhu Sports in 1952. All black means the branding from both houses reads as tonal relief rather than contrast. A rubber cupsole carries the base. Expect the nylon to crease along flex points in a way leather does not, which is part of how the material ages.
