Or lean into it: black trousers, a black knit and a red accessory, so the shoe anchors a deliberate two colour scheme instead of looking accidental. Coloured leather fades under strong sun and heat, so store them out of a window, clean with a soft brush and mild foam, and never machine wash, since heat will yellow the white midsole.

From the 1980s the Air Force 1 became a status symbol in urban and hip hop fashion, then a staple of mainstream American youth dress, then a fixture of 1990s and 2000s casual and athleisure looks. Because it is so widely worn, seasonal make ups act like limited signals inside a common language: same shoe, different message. Nike learned to speak that way through advertising, from the Spike Lee directed Air Jordan spots to Just Do It in 1988, campaigns that gave a sports company a voice outside sport. Holiday editions concentrate their work in colour blocking and detail: contrast Swoosh, heel tab, lace dubrae and insole graphics rather than any change to the last or the sole. That matters practically, because it means the shoe fits and rides exactly like a standard pair and can be broken in the same way. Pink and red leather also shows dirt differently from white, holding scuffs on the surface where a soft brush can lift them before they set.
