Released on 20 June 2023 and part of the Jordan MVP line. This release has a nubuck upper in Black/University Red/Anthracite/Dark Concord. The MVP is a hybrid, a shoe drawn from the design vocabulary the line accumulated rather than a reissue of any single model, which is only possible because that vocabulary is so well known: the Jumpman, the Wings mark, elephant print, Air cushioning. This Raptors make up moves it away from the Chicago red, black and white that function as the brand's own colours and into a Toronto reading, which is fitting for a brand that stopped being about one city long ago. Dark hybrid, so it works with volume. First: black wide leg trousers or nylon track pants with the hem stacked over the collar, a black hoodie, letting the panel textures do the work. Second: dark indigo denim with a straight leg, a grey crewneck and a bomber, which lifts the shoe out of an all dark outfit. Occasion is evening, courtside adjacent, weekends. Fit is true to size on the hybrid last, with a fuller collar than an OG 1. Care: brush soft panels dry in one direction, damp cloth on smooth leather only, protector spray before first wear, and keep the midsole clean since it is the brightest part of a dark shoe.

A hybrid upper means panels borrowed from different eras stitched into one pattern, usually mixing leather, suede or nubuck with synthetic overlays, and using brand marks structurally rather than as small badges. On a dark based make up like this the panel divisions read by texture more than by colour, so the shoe looks quieter in daylight and busier under artificial light. Nike Air cushioning has run through the line since the Air Jordan II and sits under a rubber outsole here. The care rule for any mixed upper is that the softest material sets the standard, so treat the whole shoe as if it were suede.
