Released on 24 November 2022 and part of adidas's Forum line. This release has a synthetic upper in Supplier Colour/Supplier Colour/Carbon. The Forum came out of adidas basketball in the mid eighties, and it is remembered for one detail above all others: the ankle strap, a piece of hardware that made a court shoe look like equipment. The Low cuts the height and keeps the attitude, a clean leather panel shoe with the strap still riding across the laces. Chinese Porcelain names a soft, chalky blue drawn from ceramics rather than from sport, which is a deliberate mismatch: hard basketball architecture wearing a colour associated with glaze and pattern. adidas has spent decades taking court shoes off the court, and this is that trick executed quietly.
Pale blue leather is best kept away from busy outfits. First recipe: white or ecru wide trousers with a navy knit, letting the blue sit as a tonal step down rather than a contrast. Second: black straight denim with a grey sweat, where the porcelain blue is the only soft element and reads deliberately. Wear the strap fastened over the laces for the traditional look, or loosen it for a slouchier stance. The Forum Low fits true with a slightly snug toe box, and the cupsole gives support rather than bounce, so it suits city wear. Clean the leather often rather than deeply, and treat the midsole edge as the part that ages first.
adidas basketball built its cultural weight through players first, with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and George Gervin popularising the shell toe in the NBA, and then through a music moment the brand did not commission: Run-DMC released My Adidas in 1986, held their shoes up at Madison Square Garden in July, and signed the first endorsement deal between a musical act and an athletic company. The Forum belongs to the generation of court shoes that inherited that crossover, worn far more on streets than on hardwood. A porcelain blue pair is the current version of the same idea, a basketball shoe treated as a colour object.
Leather upper on a rubber cupsole with the Forum's signature adjustable ankle strap, which is functional rather than ornamental and can be worn tightened, loose or tucked. The Three Stripes are perforated and stitched into the side panel, following the reinforcement logic they were originally added for. Pale blue leather is the maintenance question here, since light finishes hold scuffs and transfer marks from dark denim. Wipe after each wear with a slightly damp cloth, use a white eraser style block on the midsole edge, and keep them off wet pavement, because water rings show on soft-toned leather. The cupsole is stiff at first and softens over a few wears.
