J Balvin is one of the artist collaborators Jordan Brand works with, and this release puts him on the Air Jordan 3, which is not a neutral choice of model. The 3 is Tinker Hatfield's first shoe for the line, the one that introduced the elephant print and moved the Jumpman onto the tongue, and it is where the series became a design programme rather than a single athlete's shoe. Medellin Sunset is a colour brief rather than a colourway name: warm graded tones, the sort of light a city gets in the last hour of the day. Applied to a model whose signature is a grey cracked pattern, it forces the print to sit inside a palette it was never designed for.
