Nike became the official on court uniform supplier to the NBA, WNBA and NBA G League from 2017 under a deal signed in June 2015, and that partnership was extended for a further twelve years as announced in October 2024. Basketball is where Nike became a cultural company rather than a sports one. The 1984 Jordan signing and the Spike Lee directed advertising, with Lee on screen as Mars Blackmon, made Nike the shoe of the sport and, through the sport, of hip hop. The Swoosh reinforces the sidewall it crosses. Embroidery collects dust in the stitch lines, so a soft dry brush is the right tool.
