Origin
Designed by Charlotte Lee and released on 15 January 2025 as part of New Balance's 1906L line. This release has a mesh upper in Silver Metallic/Navy/Dark Juniper. The 1906 name is a direct reference to the year William J Riley started the New Balance Arch Support Company near Boston, making arch supports and shoe accessories rather than shoes. That founding date has become a product line, and the L is its own branch of it, a variant of the 1906 platform rather than a colourway of the standard model. Silver Metallic with Dark Juniper is the version that leans technical. Silver has been New Balance's signature metallic treatment since the era of chrome finished running shoes, and juniper is the corrective, a deep green that stops the whole thing looking like laboratory hardware. Together they read as an early 2000s running aesthetic revisited by people who now buy it for the shape rather than for the split times.
Utility
Wear one: technical monochrome, black or charcoal tapered trousers, a dark green or olive shell jacket and a plain tee, letting the silver read as the hardware in the outfit. Wear two: washed indigo denim with a cream crewneck, where the juniper does the connecting work and the silver keeps it from feeling too soft.
