New Balance 1906r Pink Taffy

Part of New Balance's 1906 line. This release has a mesh upper in Eclipse/Pink Taffy/Black Cement. The 1906R takes its number from 1906, the year William J Riley founded the New Balance Arch Support Company near Boston, and its shape from the brand's technical running era, when a shoe was allowed to look like machinery. Pink Taffy is the joke and the point at once. The 1906R is the most engineered looking silhouette in the current lineup, all exposed structure and hardware logic, and dressing it in a soft, sweet pink deflates that seriousness completely. That tension is why the colourway works. It takes a shoe designed to communicate performance and makes it obviously, deliberately decorative, which is what the modern audience for New Balance actually wants from the archive.
