Released on 20 July 2025 and part of Nike's Air Max DN8 line. This release has a mesh upper in Black/Dark Smoke Grey/Black/Green Strike. The Air Max line began in 1987 with a simple, radical decision: cut a window into the midsole so people could see the pressurised gas unit that had been hidden inside Nike shoes for years. Every model since has been an argument about how much of that cushioning can be exposed and how it should feel. The Dn8 is the current end of that argument, an Air Max built to be looked at from the side as much as run in. Black with green strike and dark smoke grey is the version for people who want the technology visible but the shoe itself kept dark and urban.
Two builds. Street dark: black cargos or nylon track pants with a black shell jacket, letting the green strike be the only colour on you. Tonal grey: mid grey sweats with a charcoal hoodie, where the dark smoke grey ties the shoe into the outfit and the green pops at the sole. Air Max models generally run true to size, though a tall sole unit changes how the shoe feels at first, so walk in it before deciding. Keep it out of deep puddles, since water inside a big midsole cavity takes days to leave, and clean the sole edges regularly because that is the part everyone sees.
Air Max models became staples of mainstream American youth dress alongside Air Jordans and Air Force 1s, and made Nike a status symbol in urban and hip hop fashion from the 1980s onward, then reappeared through 1990s and 2000s casual and athleisure looks. In Europe and Asia the Air Max became its own subculture entirely, with specific models mapping to specific cities and scenes. A dark colourway with one sharp green accent is the sensible way into that history: the silhouette does the recognition, and the green strike is the only thing on the shoe raising its voice.
Nike Air is pressurised gas sealed in the midsole for cushioning, visible in product from the 1987 Air Max onward, which turned the cushioning itself into a design feature. On a modern Air Max the midsole is the shoe: it dictates height, stance and the way the whole silhouette sits under a trouser. Above it sits a light engineered upper, built to keep weight down over a heavy sole unit. Black hides scuffing well, but Air units and their surrounds collect grit, so clean around the sole with a soft brush, keep solvents away from the unit itself, and never machine wash a shoe with a pressurised midsole.
