Designed by Peter Moore and released on 23 May 2024 as part of Nike's Dunk line. This release has a leather upper in White/Glacier Blue. Glacier Blue is a pale, cold blue against white, style code DV0833 104, and it belongs to the oldest colour idea in sport: the tennis club palette of white with a single cool accent. Nike's first professional athlete endorser was the tennis player Ilie Nastase, which puts that world at the very beginning of the company's endorsement history, before Steve Prefontaine and long before basketball. A soft blue Dunk is not a tennis shoe, but it borrows the same restraint. Against a court silhouette that usually shouts school colours, an icy blue reads almost neutral, which is why this is one of the easier Dunks to wear without the shoe deciding the outfit for you.
Recipe one: white wide leg trousers, a white tee and a navy cardigan, a clean summer fit where the blue sits between the two extremes. Recipe two: light wash jeans, a grey sweatshirt and a white cap, keeping the whole palette cool so the shoe never has to work hard. Avoid strong warm colours nearby, since they make glacier blue look washed out. Dunks run long, so consider half a size down. Treat the white panels with a protector before the first wear, brush dry after each outing and clean with mild soap. Do not soak, because pale leather dries with visible tidemarks that are almost impossible to remove.
Nike's endorsement machine started small and specific, with Ilie Nastase in tennis and Steve Prefontaine on the track, before the 1984 Michael Jordan signing turned a shoe line into a business of its own and the Swoosh became a status symbol in urban and hip hop fashion. Colour is how that history now reaches people who follow none of those sports. A pale blue Dunk carries the shape that basketball made famous and the palette that racquet sports made respectable, and it lands in a wardrobe that has no relationship to either. That layering, sport as source material rather than as subject, is what modern Nike actually sells.
Pale blue against white is the lowest contrast pairing the Dunk offers, so the panel edges become soft transitions rather than hard breaks and the shoe reads as one shape at distance. That places the burden on material quality: creasing, dirt and stitch irregularities show more clearly on light leather than they ever would on black. The build itself is the familiar low court one, a stitched upper, padded collar, foam midsole with no visible air unit and a rubber outsole with a pivot circle, which keeps the ride flat and direct. Light colourways also show sole discolouration first, so the white midsole will be the part that dates the pair rather than the upper.
