Designed by Peter Moore and released on 31 August 2022 as part of Nike's Dunk line. This release has a leather upper in Pale Ivory/Malachite/Pale Ivory/Black. Special edition Dunks are Nike's way of testing an idea without disturbing the silhouette, and the Lottery theme is one of the more literal ones: a shoe built around chance, sold through a system where getting a pair is itself a draw. Style code DR9654 100 sets green against a white base, the colour of a printed ticket rather than of any team. There is a neat irony in it. Nike was already the dominant force in American athletic footwear by 1980, holding roughly half the market and going public that year, and the modern release model turns even that scale into artificial scarcity. A green Dunk named after a lottery is the company being knowingly funny about its own queue.
Recipe one: white or ecru wide leg trousers, a plain white tee and a black jacket, letting the green be the only colour anywhere on the body. Recipe two: black jeans and a grey hoodie with white socks pulled just over the collar, a colder palette where the green reads sharper. Avoid other greens; matching shades never quite line up and the mismatch is obvious in daylight. Dunks run long, so half a size down suits most feet. Treat the white leather before first wear, brush dry and clean with mild soap. Do not soak the shoe, since water pulls green dye into the white panels and the staining will not come back out.
Nike's grip on youth dress is old and deep: by 1980 it held about half the US athletic shoe market, and from that decade onward the Swoosh functioned as a status symbol in urban and hip hop fashion, with court models becoming staples of mainstream American wardrobes and returning through 1990s and 2000s casual wear. Scarcity became part of the product somewhere along that route. A shoe explicitly named after a lottery acknowledges what buying a hyped Dunk has actually become, an entry rather than a purchase, and it is unusual for a brand this size to make that joke on the shoe itself rather than in the advertising.
The Dunk's panel construction is what makes theme led editions readable, since each section, toe, mudguard, quarter, Swoosh and heel, can take a different material or colour without the shape changing. Here the green sits against white, the highest contrast arrangement short of black, so the outline stays crisp from a distance. Special editions put their storytelling into components that cost nothing structurally: tongue labels, insole graphics, alternate laces and hangtags, which is where you should look on this pair. Underneath is the standard low court build, a foam midsole with no visible air unit and a rubber outsole with a pivot circle, so the ride stays flat, firm and connected to the ground.
