Released on 1 October 2025 and part of the V5 RNR line. This release has a mesh upper in Black/Gum Medium Brown/Phantom. The Vomero 5 came out of Nike's cushioned road trainer programme and then got adopted for a job it was never designed to do, which is the oldest story in this company: build something for athletes, watch a city wear it instead. Its appeal now is the layered, plated, slightly overbuilt look of turn of the millennium performance running, a period when running shoes were designed to look engineered rather than sleek. Black over tan is the most wearable reading of it, warm enough to sit with earth tone clothing and dark enough not to shout. This RNR execution keeps the shape and moves the material story where lifestyle versions of running shoes always go.
Fit one: wide leg tan or olive trousers with a black quarter zip, letting the shoe sit inside the same warm palette so it looks styled rather than found. Fit two: dark straight jeans with a cream hoodie, using the tan panels to link the shoe upward. This is a walking shoe now, not a training shoe, and the cushioning suits long city days. Sizing runs true with a snug midfoot. Layered mesh and synthetic uppers need dry brushing before any solution, and never a washing machine, since the overlays are bonded at the edges and lift once soaked. Air dry away from direct heat.
Nike is a manufacturing business as much as a fashion one, and it has spent years trying to make that fact less costly: Nike Grind recycles manufacturing scrap and worn shoes back into new product and into surfaces, and the company partnered with Newlight Technologies in 2021 on AirCarbon bioplastic. That matters to the revival of chunky performance running shoes, because these silhouettes are material heavy by design. The wider cultural point is simpler. A generation that never ran in these shoes adopted them for how they look, which means an archive running model now has a second commercial life that has nothing to do with what it was engineered for.
The Vomero 5 build is a layered one: mesh base panels with synthetic overlays stacked on top, plus a sidewall structure that makes the midsole look mechanical rather than smooth. That layering is why the shape works in two tones, since every overlay gives you another edge to place a colour against. Nike's cushioning language runs through sealed Air units and foam midsoles built to be seen rather than hidden, which is the design habit that has defined the company since the Air Max of 1987. Black with tan puts the darker tone on the areas that scuff and the warmer tone on the panels that catch light, which is a practical division as well as a visual one.
