    Culture Note™

Released on 27 February 2025 and part of Nike's Vomero 18 line. This release has a mesh upper in White/Electric Green/Volt/Black. The Vomero name has moved from a mid pack road shoe to the plushest thing in Nike's daily running range, and the eighteenth edition is where that repositioning is most obvious. Where the brand's racing work chases weight, this line chases volume: more foam, more height, more forgiveness for the runner who is not chasing a time. Electric Green is the colourway, and it is a running colour rather than a lifestyle one, the sort of high visibility tone that exists so drivers see you at six in the morning. The lineage behind it is old: Bill Bowerman started this company's product thinking by deciding that runners deserved better equipment than they were being sold.
This is a comfort first road shoe. Recipe one: easy and long runs in shorts and a technical tee, with a cushioned sock, the high stack doing the work on tired legs and hard tarmac. Recipe two: standing days and long walks, worn with black joggers and a plain grey quarter zip, since Electric Green functions as an accent when everything else is neutral. Avoid using it for lifting or for court sports, where a tall soft midsole is a liability. Size half a size up from your formal length and leave a thumb of room at the toe. Bright uppers hold dirt visibly: brush after runs, clean with mild soap and a soft brush, never machine wash, and air dry in shade.
Nike's running credibility is the oldest thing it owns. Steve Prefontaine, coached by Bowerman at Oregon, became its first track endorser and its symbol of running as attitude rather than exercise, and the sponsored roster that followed ran from Sebastian Coe and Carl Lewis to Michael Johnson and Allyson Felix. That history is why the everyday cushioned trainer sells: people buy the daily shoe because they believe the race shoes. Just Do It, first aired on 1 July 1988 with the 80 year old runner Walt Stack, made the ordinary runner the hero of the story rather than the professional, and a bright green cushioned trainer is that story's uniform.
Height is the design. A tall, wide midsole gives a soft landing and a stable platform, and the visual bulk of the sole is the shoe's identity in the same way that a window into the Air unit defined the 1987 Air Max. Nike's foam history runs from Lunarlite, a lightweight foam, through to ZoomX, its lightest and most responsive material, and its daily trainers use the durable end of that thinking rather than the racing end. The upper on this family is a soft, structured mesh built to hold a foot without pressure, and Electric Green will show every scuff and every road splash. No stack figure, weight or foam name is published to you here, so run in the pair before you commit it to long distances.
